What’s Next for the Food Freedom Act? A Look Ahead to the 2027 Session
Wyoming’s Food Freedom Act has opened new opportunities for home producers to sell homemade food and beverages directly to their neighbors. As lawmakers prepare for the 2027 legislative session, the law—and how it may evolve—is receiving renewed attention.
First passed in 2015, the Food Freedom Act allows many homemade foods and beverages to be sold directly to consumers without the licensing and inspection requirements of a traditional commercial kitchen. During 2026, the Joint Agriculture, State and Public Lands & Water Resources Committee has been examining possible changes to the law.
Proposals under consideration include creating a new “producer-retailer” designation that could allow qualifying homemade products to be sold through restaurants and coffee shops, as well as permitting limited raw milk sales at certain commercial locations.
